T3: Lead Teacher Teams

Are you an experienced, effective teacher who is looking for your next professional challenge? Are you looking for recognition as an excellent teacher? Are you looking to work with a collaborative team of like-minded peers to demonstrate the power of teaching to eliminate the achievement gap? If so, then becoming a T3 teacher leader could be the next step in your career.

Both Boston Public Schools teachers and teachers who currently teach outside the district are eligible to apply.

About the T3 Initiative

The T3 Initiative in Boston, a partnership between Teach Plus, the Boston Public Schools, and Unlocking Potential, was first launched in Boston in 2010. It is among the first efforts nationally to address the importance of effective, experienced teachers in school improvement initiatives. These schools receive intensive support to significantly raise student outcomes. The T3 Initiative has now expanded to additional schools in BPS, Fall River Public Schools and the Achievement School District in Memphis.

A key piece of Superintendent Dr. Carol Johnson’s ambitious Acceleration Agenda -- the five year strategic plan for the Boston Public Schools -- is a focus on investing in and supporting high quality teachers, who inspire our students and can help other teachers excel in the classroom.

Chosen for their effectiveness with urban students and trained as a cohort for acceleration of the school improvement process, T3 teacher leaders are now playing a central role in transforming six Boston schools (the Blackstone, the Dearborn, Orchard Gardens, the Roger Clap Innovation School, the Trotter and UP Academy Charter School).

During the 2012-13 school year, T3 plans to expand its partnership to two additional schools in BPS*:

Current teachers at the Umana, Holland and Sarah Greenwood are strongly encouraged to apply.

*T3 expansion to the Umana and Sarah Greenwood is contingent on agreement between Boston Public Schools and the Boston Teachers Union.

**The T3 Initiative at the Umana and Sarah Greenwood is funded by Race to the Top through June 2014.

Benefits of the T3 Initiative

As a T3 teacher leader, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with a team of high-performing, dedicated teachers. You will receive coaching and be trained as a cohort in strategies that have been used by other highly effective teacher teams. You’ll be part of a broader improvement strategy in a school that supports quality teaching and teacher leadership.

T3 teacher leaders earn a pay differential and serve in leadership roles without having to leave the classroom. The T3 Initiative offers a path toward mastery in urban teaching and in leadership of other teachers.

How to become a T3 teacher leader

Minimum qualifications include at least three years of teaching experience in a high poverty school and a track record of effectiveness with students. For more information about the T3 Initiative and to apply to become a T3 teacher leader, visit: www.t3teachers.org
