Who

Everett AchievementAre you a BPS parent, graduate or educator?  Do you want to support our kids and their schools?  Become a goodwill ambassador for the Boston Public Schools and share your story by volunteering for fun activities at least once every six months.

What

Team BPS is a call to action by the City of Boston asking BPS parents, alumni, educators and others to take a stand for their kids and their schools.

Why

Kids thrive when their communities thrive.  When we invest in our public schools we invest in our kids and our communities.

As BPS graduates, parents, and educators we can help BPS communicate the good news about our schools and raise the profile of the district.  Together as Team BPS we can help spread the message to families that the Boston Public Schools will provide their children with a rigorous and enriching education.

When

Join now!  Just fill out the online application and attend an upcoming orientation.

Volunteer activities that spread our positive message and support our kids and our schools are ongoing.

How

An active group of volunteers have already signed on as “Ambassadors” for the Boston Public Schools and pledged their positive support for the district.  Ambassadors volunteer in ways that best fit their schedule, abilities, and interest levels. Ambassadors are encouraged to participate as often as they can, at a minimum of at least once every six months.  Volunteer opportunities may include:

Ambassadors are encouraged to participate as often as they can, at a minimum of at least once every six months.  Volunteer opportunities may include:

  • Helping out at BPS Visibility Day, distributing BPS literature during School Choice Season, and other outreach efforts
  • Communicating with the media about your BPS experience (agreeing to an interview with a reporter or writing op-eds)
  • Informal conversations about your experience with prospective parents
  • Blogging with fellow supporters and prospective BPS families
  • Presenting at workshops about your BPS experience
  • Simply talking positively in your community about your experience in BPS as part of your daily routine (at sporting events, dance class or the grocery store)

Orientation

New Ambassadors are required to attend one brief orientation to learn about potential activities, discuss FAQs, and get answers to their questions. Orientations occur monthly in locations around the city.

Benefits

Ambassadors are invited to quarterly opportunities to meet with local policy makers, to provide feedback on the program, to participate in learning sessions, and to network with one another.

Ambassadors also receive complimentary “team wear” promoting the BPS. It’s our way of saying “thanks.” We hope these items will get lots of use and that, ultimately, we’ll see lots of Ambassadors sporting their team wear around the city!
