Mattapan Early Elementary School

Mattapan EES Building

The Mattapan Early Elementary School will serve as a model of excellence in early childhood education, specializing in providing trauma-sensitive practices and includes both general education and special education programs for students with autism in an inclusion setting. The Mattapan EES will also offer culturally and linguistically proficient programming for English Language Learners, including at least one “dual language” classroom in Haitian Creole and English, beginning in K1, as well as Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) in Haitian Creole in K2 and Grade 1, and provide an extended school day and school year.

Mattapan Early Elementary School

Boston Public Schools Staff and community members have been working diligently over the past several weeks focused on the development and initial vision and mission of the Mattapan Early Elementary School (temporary name).

  • The New School Design Team meets weekly on Tuesday evenings

  • 12/20/16 The New School Design Team spent a half day retreat at the Boston Nature Center working on the mission and vision of the school.

  • Their work is grounded in the Strategic Implementation Plan as well as the Opportunity and Achievement Gap Task Force Policy.

  • The first Steering Committee meeting took place during which members of the New School Design Team had the opportunity to share out the work in order to obtain feedback for planning moving forward.

  • Design team members visited the Boston Nature Center Preschool.

  • On January 10, 2017,  a group of parents who have selected the new school for September 2017 will tour several early childhood programs with design team members to identify elements they would like to see included in the learning environments for their children.
