Wait Lists

If there is no space available in a program, students are added to a wait list. Wait list positions are based on priority, round registered, and lottery number. We cannot guarantee that seats will become available and students will move off of a wait list.

  • Until January 2017, if a seat becomes available, Boston Public Schools will call the first family on the waitlist and provide 24 hours to accept or decline the seat.
  • Wait lists will expire at the end of January.
  • You can visit or call a Welcome Center to learn of your child’s rank on the wait list. If we do not have an accurate phone number and/or email address, we will not be able to contact your family.

  • If a seat is available in August, September, the third week in November, or the final week in January, Boston Public Schools will call the first family on the waitlist and provide 24 hours to accept or decline the seat.
  • Boston Public Schools will not call wait lists outside of these time periods, even if a seat becomes available.
  • Wait lists will expire at the end of January.

NOTE: For the 2017-2018 school year, wait list calls will be made through Thanksgiving, and wait lists for grades 1-12 will expire at the end of November 2017.
